It was from Lavernock Point in 1897 that Marconi sent the first radio messages to the island of Flatholm some 3 miles away.

A few hundred yards inland is Lavernock Church, with a plaque on the boundary wall commemorating Marconi's first radio message across the sea -"Are you ready?". This dramatic event was to revolutionise communications throughout the world.
Lavernock Point is the Welsh site of the proposed Severn Barrage running across the Bristol Channel to Brean Down near Weston Super Mare on the Somerset Coast.
B 4267 from Penarth, past Cosmeston Village and Country Park take the first right into Fort Road to the end.
