The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama has been granted planning permission for its £22.5 million development to build a new concert hall, theatre, drama rehearsal spaces and exhibition gallery to complement and enhance its existing high-quality performance facilities. The College’s planning application was approved by Cardiff Council’s planning committee on September 18th at Cardiff’s City Hall.
Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama had submitted plans to Cardiff Council to redevelop part of its existing site on Cardiff’s North Road to build a suite of world class training and performance facilities for musicians, actors, theatre designers and stage managers.

Established in 1949, the college occupies purpose-built accommodation in the grounds of Cardiff Castle.
The RWCMD provides specialist, practical and performance-based training that enables students to enter and influence the music, theatre and related professions.
There are 550 students at the college, approximately one third studying theatre-related subjects and two thirds, music. Just over a quarter of the students are postgraduates.
The college presents over 300 public performances every year, including concerts and guest recitals, opera, musical theatre and a range of drama productions.
Performances take place at the college's theatre and recital spaces and at various external venues.
